Peñiscola is a walled mediaeval settlement on a beach – the battle scene of the film of El Cid.
Denia is a fishing village, once a Moorish stronghold. The Moors planted orange and lemon groves in this warm, fertile area and it remains a major producer of fruit and vegetables to this day.

Local Cuisine
The area enjoys the freshest produce from both land and sea.
Peppers, tomatoes and chillies, locally grown, make for spicy sauces like "romesco".
Paella is made in a variety of ways, with seafood being the local favourite.
Valencia is famous for its fruit growing, especially oranges, and the Moors introduced almonds to the area – try the almond drink "horchata" and take
home some "turron" (nougat).
