Local Cuisine
Before the arrival of tourism, fishing, wine and olives were the mainstays of the area’s economy.
Barbecued grilled shellfish and seafood is a speciality often served with mayonnaise (alioli).
Clear wine and shellfish soups are also found.
Meat, especially pork, is combined with beans and peppers in Catalan specialities which were once the staple diet of the rural population.
