Destinations - Spain - Costa Dorada

The area to the South of Barcelona is known as the Costa Dorada, the Golden Coast, because it is blessed with long, sandy beaches.

Popular with families, the coastal resorts are well-developed, but just a little way inland

Cambrils, Costa Dorada

 the countryside is unspoilt.

With the resurgence of the Catalan language and culture, it is an area proud of its heritage. Communications are excellent with motorways radiating from the Catalan capital, Barcelona.

Local Cuisine

Paella can include rabbit, pork, chicken or vegetables.

On the Costa Dorada, seafood and shellfish predominate in this favourite, flavoured, as ever, with saffron.

Be sure to try the local sausages of Catalonia such as butifarra, made of pork and pine nuts.

For dessert, crema catalana (egg custard) is popular.
