Renowned for its long, sandy beaches, secluded coves and warm mediterranean climate, Spain has long been a favourite holiday destination.

Increasingly more visitors, however, are being drawn by the unspoilt scenery and rural lifestyle behind the coastal strip. Here, the country’s turbulent history and influences from the Romans to the Catalans have blended to form today’s unique Spanish culture.

Strong Catholic traditions, Muñecar architecture, flamenco, fiesty bull fighting and the resurgent minority languages make up modern-day Spain. It is a rich mix in a country already blessed with many natural splendours, from the Pyrenees in the north and the fertile orange groves of Valencia on the east coast to the olive plantations of Andalucia in the south.
